Known in Hebrew as "Sukkot Sameach", meaning "Happy Sukkot," this celebration commemorates the Israelites’ forty-year journey through the desert after leaving Egypt. During Sukkot, Jewish families build a temporary structure called a Sukkah, symbolising the fragile dwellings used by their ancestors in the desert. Meals are eaten within the Sukkah, and some families even sleep there, immersing themselves fully in the holiday’s spirit.
Another central ritual involves the Four Species – the Lulav (palm), Etrog (citron), Hadas (myrtle), and Aravah (willow). These are waved in a prescribed manner during prayers, symbolising unity, growth, and reverence for God’s blessings. Sukkot is not only a celebration of history but also an expression of faith, community, and gratitude.
